Son of a Wanted Man was intended to be a movie. All the locations were to be centered around Sonora, California … a town situated a couple of hours South East of San Francisco. In the last 75 years, many films have been shot in this area (including Louis L'Amour's The Shadow Riders and Shaugnessy) but, amazingly, there are still many unused locations nearby.

Columbia, California could be the fictional town of Brandt's Crossing, with the stone building at Knight's Landing used as the Brandt's Crossing jail and the church at Chinese Camp used as the church and graveyard.
